California Traffic Accident Checklist

California Traffic Accident Checklist

Every year over 40,000 people die as a result of auto accidents and over six million people get into auto accidents causing 3 million injuries, many of which require medical attention. Drivers who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol or drive at unsafe speeds play a large part in these accidents. Other large contributing factors include inattention due to cell phone use, defective tires and manufacturing or design defects.

Following are some very important things to remember after an auto accident:
  1. Remain calm and try to relax;
  2. If you have suffered any injuries do not move unless it is absolutely necessary;
  3. Remain at the scene for medical attention and police assistance;
  4. Discuss the accident ONLY with the police for the official report;
  5. Tell the police whether or not you were wearing a seat belt;
  6. Collect the names, phone numbers, and addresses of any and all witnesses;
  7. If you have been injured, take an ambulance to the hospital as soon as possible;
  8. Inform medical staff of any possible injuries, even if they seem minor at the time;
  9. Take notes regarding the accident, including the weather conditions, any traffic signs, the time of day, and the positioning of the vehicles;
  10. DO NOT DISCUSS THE ACCIDENT WITH THE INSURANCE COMPANIES INVOLVED;
  11. Call an experienced California Auto Accident Lawyer as soon as possible.
